PLSN University Adds Seminars, Teams with TSU

LAS VEGAS and AUSTIN, TX – The PLSN Academy of Production Technology has announced a new series of classes for 2010. In addition to the seminars scheduled in Toronto (Feb 1-3), Steamboat Springs, Colorado (March 15-17), and Austin (April 7-9), a new seminar for entry-level electricians, technicians, and students has been scheduled in San Marcos, Texas on March 8-10. The newly scheduled seminar will be hosted by the Department of Theatre and Dance on the campus of Texas State University – San Marcos. The three-day course is entitled "Beginning Electricity, Power Distribution, and Control Systems" and it is targeted for beginning and intermediate level students and professionals. The course will be jointly taught by ETCP Recognized Trainer Richard Cadena and Texas State University Technical Director Shane Smith. Sponsors of the event include Cast Software and Texas State University Department of Theatre and Dance.


About the Presenters


Shane K. Smith is an Assistant Professor and the Technical Director for the Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University – San Marcos. He is also a practicing stagehand continuing to work with various theatre companies in the Austin, Texas area and is often found backstage working as Head Carpenter for the Austin Lyric Opera. In addition to Texas State, teaching credits include Lawrence University, Florida State University and Texas Lutheran University covering courses like Stagecraft, Stage Lighting and Technical Production. Prior to teaching at Texas State, Smith worked professionally as Technical Director for both the Austin Lyric Opera and Southern Methodist University. Other professional credits include working as a theatre consultant designing new stage lighting and rigging systems for many theatres around the United States. Smith holds an MFA in Technical Design and Production from the Yale School of Drama.


Richard Cadena is the author of several books for the production professional, including Electricity for the Entertainment Electrician & Technician, Automated Lighting: The Art and Science of Moving Light, Lighting Design for Modern Houses of Worship, Focus on Lighting Technology. He is a 24 year veteran of the entertainment lighting industry and he has a background in electronics and electrical engineering. His work experience includes stints with two of the world's largest automated lighting manufacturers and he has designed lighting systems for tours, theatre, and permanent installations. He is also the editor of Projection, Lights and Staging News magazine, an Authorized WYSIWYG Trainer, and. freelance lighting designer. He is proficient in WYSIWYG, LD Assistant, and Vectorworks and he teaches classes in lighting, electricity, and control systems. His training seminars and webinars are renowned for their humor and creativity and are among the most popular in the industry.
