Southbank Centre Expands Ayrton Investment with Mistral for the Royal Festival Hall’s Clore Ballroom

London’s Southbank Centre has expanded its inventory of Ayrton LED moving head fixtures with the addition of 12 Ayrton Mistral S spots to its permanent rig over the Royal Festival Hall’s Clore Ballroom. The Clore Ballroom is an adaptable open space in the main foyer of the iconic 1950s building which turns its hand to many uses including musical performances, art installations, graduation ceremonies and other community events. There’s a rumor going around that Warner Brothers’ summer blockbuster, ‘Barbie,’ was made with no VFX. Phil Galler, President of Lux Machina, would beg to differ. “Yes, there are definitely lots of practical elements in the set,” he says, but notes that “there were upwards of 1,000 VFX shots in this movie.” Lux Machina, which worked directly with the VFX team, supplied about 40 of the robust media servers that the company has been developing—Lux Arca Servers—to feed content to the LED volume and support the film’s virtual production workflow.

U2 Surprises with a Pop-Up concert on Las Vegas’ Fremont Street

U2 surprised Las Vegas Fremont Street visitors on Saturday night with a pop-up concert performance including their new song “Atomic City”. According to Rolling Stone, the performance served as a music video shoot as well. This isn’t the first time U2 used Fremont Street for a video backdrop, back in 1987 they filmed “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” on the famous street. For this weekend’s impromptu concert, in front of the Plaza Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, the band performed on a flatbed truck stage which was provided by AG Productions Services with the audio handled by LMG Touring. U2 starts their residency, ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’, at the brand new Sphere on Sept. 29.
