IRVINE, CA — For 311’s June and July 2009 Unity tour dates, which promoted the band’s latest album, Uplifter, lighting designer/director Joe Paradise hoisted a lighting rig that included Coemar Infinity Wash XL, ACL and ParLite LED gear. The LEDs were part of a broader effort to charge up the shows with “…more lights, a lot more video, and more effects, as well as a Main Light (Soft-LED) 2.5 scrim.”

The rig is comprised of three arches, “two horizontals in the air, and one on the ground,” said Paradise.  A couple of 15 foot towers, mostly silver and toned with Coemar ParLite Leds, flank the stage.  A straight black truss is situated downstage.

“We’ve got 18 Infinity Wash XLs and 10 Infinity ACLs, along with two hazebase base hazers,” Paradise said, “which make for lots of fun and look fantastic.”

Coemar’s ParLite Led is a leading truss toner, and works well as a substitute for the analog PAR can.  Coemar touts its variable light projection angles via quick lens change (standard: 12 degrees, optional: 30, 13 x 40 and 110 degrees), its lack of a fan, low maintenance and quiet operation.

Coemar’s Infinity Wash XL is a bright, automated moving head washlight that uses a CMY-s color mixing system with new saturation mode, a color wheel with five colors + white, and a proportional CTO filter.  Coemar touts the zoom range (proportional from 5 to 84 degrees), the effects (Multicolor, Moon Flower, Beam’o) and beam shaping device (360 degrees indexable), along with its dimming, synchronized or random strobe effect and electronic zap strobe and black-out.

Paradise credited the gear for their “good color and ridiculously high output,” adding that they have proven to be “very reliable, and their whole feel is very nice.”

The Infinity ACLs, he added, “really stand out, really look great.  The gobos are so nice; the movement is superb,” crediting them for consistent beam and colors.  “And when you’re outdoors,” he added, “they look like they’re shooting into space.”
