KANSAS CITY, MO — Dave Boser, with the St. Louis office for Image Technologies, an event marketing firm, used 40 Chauvet LED Colordash Battens to light a truss system configured in the shape of a jewelry company's logo, matching colors to the presentation's PowerPoint graphics.
The jewelry company, Silapada Designes, uses a business model where 28,000 independent direct sellers conduct home parties to promote the company's products. So for the company’s most important party of the year — its annual convention — Boser used the lit truss to provide a boost in visual energy to match its growing success. Silpada Designs’ 2008 sales reached nearly $270 million, up from $190 million the year before.
“They were looking for something far beyond what they had previously,” Boser said. “They had lots of bits and pieces but the show wasn’t cohesive.”
Boser’s company, with additional offices in Kansas City, Atlanta and Dallas, specializes in film and video production and event marketing. The company handles audio visual, scenic staging and lighting and video duties.
For the convention, held in Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium, Image Technologies used a variety of moving yoke, wash and spot fixtures, but the focal point was a custom truss system replicating the company’s logo, a diamond shape set off by two chevrons.
“They had different colored themes so I followed the cues,” Boser said. A lot of pre-planning kept problems to a minimum, Boser added. “We had close to 116 points [of light] in the entire show.”
Silpada founders Bonnie Kelly and Teresa Walsh were very happy with the show, Boser said. “We hope it’s a slam dunk and they will come to us again next year.”
