BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil — Paulo Pederneiras, lighting designer and artistic director for the Brazilian dance troupe Grupo Corpo, was looking to saturate the stage in changing colors. He and his tech staff found what they had been seeking in ETC’s Selador Series Paletta LED fixtures. Grupo Corpo added the Selador Series x7 Color System LEDs to their inventory, which also includes Source Four ellipsoidals and PARs controlled by ETC SmartPack touring dimming and an ETC control console.
GC’s Technical Coordinator Gabriel Pederneiras noted that the Selador fixtures beat out several competing brands of RGB fixtures. “The regular RBG simply could not provide us with the color we wanted,” he said. “The color mixing that can be achieved with the Seladors is great,” he added, crediting the fixtures for energy efficiency as well.
One of the company’s mainstay dance pieces since 1996, an experimental fusion of classical and avant-garde dance and music, Bach, had always employed Fresnels with L195 as a backlight. “But once we hung the Selador Paletta LED fixtures on the same pipe,” Gabriel Pederneiras said, “we were so pleased with the light, that we eliminated the Fresnels all together and now use the LEDs instead.”
Grupo Corpo will be finishing up their season with the Selador LED fixtures at the Teatro Solis in Montevideo, Uruguay, Dec. 11-13. But in 2010, they will resume their international touring schedule, taking their Seladors with them to use in their 10-ballet repertoire. Tour stops will include Canada in March, Spain in May, Germany and France in November, as well as the company’s regular Brazilian tour in August.
