BOLOGNA, Italy – Music Gate, a singing contest on Italian TV that is staged weekly at the Antoniano Theatre and broadcast on RAI Gulp, is being lit with Robe's Robin 300E Spot moving light fixtures, chosen by LD Giulio Palaferri. Palaferri and the show's lighting operator, Fabio Persia had not used Robe products before, but chose them for the show after seeing them in a demo performed by rental company N.I.T. Service in Rome. N.I.T. Service is supplying fixtures for the show.
The stage has an L-shaped, open-plan appearance, and the 20 Robin 300E Spots are rigged on trusses at the back of the two sides of the "L." They provide the flexibility required by the different genres of music performed on stage, with the vibe changing from subtle and moody to bright and energetic.
The variety of looks is a key consideration, because it is essential that no two scenes during the two-hour show are repeated for the weekly show, aired over a period of nine weeks.
Palaferri and Persia have been using many of the gobo and prism effects that are available with the Robin fixtures for floor and aerial looks, along with the wide array of colors and other effects. The fixtures' small dimensions have also been a boon, allowing them to fit into tight spaces.
Palaferri is also using Robe's Robin and REDWash fixtures on Zecchino Doro, another youth singing talent contest staged in the same venue and broadcast on RAI1.
