White Light Supplies VLX for Eddie Izzard Tour

LONDON – White Light is supplying Vari-Lite's VLX LED fixtures for Eddie Izzard's Stripped touring rig. LD Keith Johnson specified the 28 of the units, primarily to light the audience in large arenas, and called the fixtures "very fast," "very bright" and "very reliable." "They fill any arena; the zoom range is huge, with the spot good and beamy in haze," Johnson said. "Additive color mixing means they just get brighter the more color you add. All of the primary colors are perfect and give very deep saturation. They are about as bright as any wash I have used, and the VLX proves that nothing will strobe as fast an LED."

With fewer moving parts than traditional moving lights and lower operating temperatures, the units have also proven to be reliable. "We have not swapped a VLX yet," Johnson said. "And there are no expensive lamps to replace, and the units are always the same intensity."

Using seven custom 120watt RGBW LED chipsets, the VLX offers 14,000 lumens of output, with a beam homogenization system designed to provide smooth color mixing. The fixtures also offer dynamic CRI adjustment and a 23-degree to 58-degree zoom range.

"We've been delighted with the VLX," said White Light's rental director, Dave Isherwood. "They combine Vari-Lite's traditional strengths – great color, great beam, great movement – with the advantages of LED light sources, including reduced energy consumption and very long lamp life."

Along with the Vari-Lite VLX, White Light offers other energy-efficient LED fixtures in its inventory, including GLP Impressions, Fusion 672 video battens, i-Pix BB4 wash fixtures and cyc lighting such as EvenLED, also in use on the Eddie Izzard tour.
