Peter Mayer Group Tours with Chauvet Rig

MARION, VA – Stewart Sound Inc. used an all-Chauvet rig to light the latest string of performances by The Peter Mayer Group featuring Peter Mayer of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. A guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Mayer fronts his own band in theaters and churches across the U.S. when he is not performing as one of Jimmy Buffet's Coral Reefers.

Stewart Sound provides audio, lighting and stage management to the band. Some venues are not designed for performances and posed a challenge in loading and powering lighting fixtures, said Stewart Sound owner Chad Stewart.

LD Dave Champagne sought to work with lights that would embrace and enhance the different personalities of each venue. "Rather than put lots of light on the band, our goal with this project was to capitalize on the architecture of these spaces," he said.

"Each show was not just a new venue, but a new landscape altogether. Some nights we were lighting a brick wall, a gorgeous church ceiling or pipe organ, other nights were simply white columns or a cyc."

Champagne used six COLORado three LED wash lights, four Intimidator Spot 250 moving yokes and a Chauvet Data Stream 4 optical splitter. The fixtures were controlled by a High End Systems Hog 1000 console.

"The COLORado 3 is our most-used fixture," Champagne said. "Reliable is an understatement – they are indeed, bulletproof. We knew the fixtures were tough enough and plenty bright, the color mixing is great, and when you factor in low power consumption, there was no question these were the fixtures for this tour."

The Intimidator Spot 250 moving heads were selected because they "are shockingly bright" and at "a price point that cannot be beat," Champagne said. "We use it on all of our budget shows and tours, and are continually impressed with the fixture."
