LUANDA, Angola – Robe moving lights played a key role at the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (AKA the Orange Africa Cup of Nations) soccer tournament staged at 11th November Stadium.
Carlos Silva and Pedro Leston from Lisbon, Portugal-based A Fundição designed the lighting, specifying 160 Robes from the lighting company, Puromix.
The themes for both shows, broadcast to viewers around the world, focused on the significant cultural and political events in Angola's recent history and its vision for the future.
The rig included 94 Robe ColorSpot 2500E ATs and 60 ColorWash 2500E ATs. They were positioned on the stadium roof and around the perimeter of the field of play, chosen for brightness and versatility.
Leston and Silva, who have used Robe moving lights on previous occasions, also cited reliability, speed of movement and optical quality as reasons why they chose the Robe fixtures. They also made use of gobo selection and wide focus range available with both types of units.
The lighting was programmed and operated by Carlos Silva using an MA Lighting grandMA2 light console.
