Solaris Quasar Strobes Add Flash to Strictly Come Dancing

MANCHESTER, U.K. – The eighth series of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing closed in October with a Halloween theme featuring virtual lightning bolts, ghosts, goblins, and top amateur dancers. LD Mark Kenyon specified Solaris Quasar 15k high-powered strobes to add to the lightning effects. Kenyon credited the Quasar strobes for being bright enough to add "a whole new creative element" that was well-suited for TV, particularly the unit's ability to hold at full intensity for several seconds, which "creates a momentary and blinding washout effect, making the viewer at home feel as if they're actually on the live set."

Kenyon, who founded Mark Kenyon Television Design Ltd. in 1998, has served as chairman of the Society of Television Lighting Directors (three years), and on the Committee of the National Illumination Council (five years).  His credits include live events and television productions such as:  Live Earth; The Eurovision Song Contest; The Brit Awards; The BAFTA Television & Film Awards; Children in Need (2003/4/5); and Comic Relief.  He also illuminated the Pyramids and Giza Plateau in Egypt for Into the Pyramids.

Solaris professional strobe fixtures range from 35W to 85,000W. The 85,000W Solaris T-Light has been used recently for such events as the 54th Eurovision Song Contest and tours by AC-DC, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga and Rammstein.
