MEXICO CITY – The historic El Zócalo (Plaza of the Constitution) was illuminated with a 75-minute-long multimedia spectacular in November, part of a continuing series of celebrations for the centenary of the start of the Mexican Revolution and the bicentennial of the country's independence. Bruno Corsini of Marseilles, France designed the lighting, using 86 XLED 570 heads from PR Lighting, which were supplied by Sebastian Corkidi of Simply Professional. Corsini chose the gear based on brightness combined with minimal energy consumption.
Corsini used the fixtures to illuminate three big stages and catwalk as more than 300 artists performed through five acts, depicting Mexico's history via music, dance, vocals, pyrotechnics, lighting and image projection.
The most recent event, one of several spectaculars taking place at the historic plaza this year, was "bigger and better" than those held earlier, according Corkidi from Simply Professional, who had also provided all the PR Lighting gear for the earlier events.
The XLED 590s lit the square, and the event also featured a 270° projection of video onto the facades of the buildings surrounding it, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace and Federal District Government.
The three stages were set up in different locations and hosted musicians and dancers who performed amid the lighting and projected images. Close to 90,000 visitors attended each night.
