NEW YORK – When the lighting needs intensified for the Rockefeller Center outdoor concerts hosted by NBC's Today show, Kaufman Astoria Studios provided a grandMA2 for LD Howie Strawbridge. Brian Davis is the board programmer. They've used the console to light performances on the show by Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Carole King. As Kaufman Astoria vice president Mike Spera noted, Strawbridge "began getting into heavier lighting with ColorBlazes, Showguns and HMIs, and he wanted to start using the grandMA2. The grandMA2 not only controls Howie's lighting but several DL3 projectors on the set, too," Spera added.
With Today wrapping up its concert series this month, the grandMA2, which has been housed at NBC in Rockefeller Center, is set to go back to Kaufman Astoria's studio complex for use on other projects.
"We furnished the grandMA2 to Today the day after we received it, and they have been very happy with it," Spera said, adding that the show's crew was able to take advantage of training offered by the console's North American distributor, A.C.T Lighting.
