{mosimage}LONDON – White Light is supplying lighting gear to several new theatrical productions in the U.K. and beyond this year, including Dreamgirls, The Children's Hour and My Trip Down the Pink Carpet. Most of the shows are being staged in London, but Dreamgirls, which opened at the Apollo Theater in New York's Harlem before traveling the U.S., is headed to the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg and on to Cape Town. Directed and choreographed by Robert Longbottom and designed by Robin Wagner, Dreamgirls' lighting was designed by Ken Billington.
Dreamgirls' production electrician Gerry Amies recently started putting the rig together at White Light's London base. Plans call for it to be shipped to South Africa in time for the show's March opening in Johannesburg.
In London, White Light is supplying The Children's Hour at the Comedy Theatre, which features Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss. That production is directed by Ian Rickson, designed by Mark Thompson and lit by Neil Austin.
Other new London productions lit by White Light include My Trip Down The Pink Carpet, lit by Jesse Belsky at the Apollo Theatre, and the season of three plays performed by the Moscow-based Sovremennik Theatre at the Noel Coward Theatre.
On the road, White Light is once again supplying lighting for touring productions of Footloose, lit by James Whiteside; Buddy, lit by Joe Atkins; and Calendar Girls, lit by Tim Lutkin; as they take to the road for 2011.
Other shows served by White Light include Billy Elliot, Chicago, Dirty Dancing, A Flea In Her Ear, Grease, Love Never Dies, Les Misérables, War Horse and the forthcoming Wizard of Oz in London, with We Will Rock You and Matthew Bourne's Cinderella also touring the UK.
