CAMAS, WA – Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) announced that Dr. D. Laurence Meixner has been named President and Chief Executive Officer. Situated in Camas, Washington and founded in 1995, SLA is Sharp’s U.S. research and development facility. In his new position, Dr. Meixner is responsible for all of Sharp’s U.S.-based R&D initiatives. Dr. Meixner will lead research and development supporting four of Sharp’s core disciplines: Consumer Systems & Technology; Digital Imaging Systems; Advanced Video & Display Technology; and Material & Device Applications. SLA focus areas include mobile communications, internet connectivity, enterprise print/copy systems, digital imaging, LCD video and display, electronic medical and wellness systems, solar energy, and novel materials and device technologies.
Prior to his appointment at SLA, Dr. Meixner was Vice President at Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, formerly the Rockwell Science Center, one of the premier industrial R&D centers in the U.S. In that capacity, he headed a multi-disciplinary R&D organization in the areas of information sciences, optics, and materials. Previously, Dr. Meixner was director of R&D for YTC America, the U.S.-based R&D organization for Yazaki Corporation of Japan. At YTC America, he was responsible for overall strategy and project development with Yazaki business units and R&D labs in Japan.
Dr. Meixner received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in Physical Chemistry with a minor in Electrical Engineering. He completed his B.S. at Caltech, and also holds a Certificate in General Management from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
