MONTREAL and ABUJA, Nigeria – Weighing a total of 120,000 pounds, three Stageline mobile stages were flown earlier this month from Montreal to Abuja, Nigeria aboard an Antonov An-124, a Russia-made cargo aircraft that ranks as one of the largest in the world. Although the cost of the air freight rivaled that for the stages themselves, the night flight covered a distance in 13.5 hours that would have taken weeks by transport at sea. The three stages included two Stageline SL320s and one Stageline SL260.
Along with the stages, Stageline sent two members of its team to the event, which the staging company declined to discuss at the request of the client. The stages were sold, and remain in Africa.
If the gig was unique in the means used to rush the three Stageline stages across the Atlantic, Stageline has provided other stages to Africa within the last five years, including staging products used for last year's World Cup celebrations.
So far, Stageline's SL100, SL260, SL320 and Promobile have been used, in South Africa, Mozambique and Nigeria.
