MAC Rig for “Songs of Praise” 50th Anniversary Includes New MAC Aura

LONDON – Lighting designer Bernie Davis used Martin Professional’s new MAC Aura wash light on the BBC’s “Songs of Praise” 50th Birthday Celebration, which aired Sept. 25 from London’s Alexandra Palace.

Davis, who saw the MAC Aura just weeks earlier at the PLASA trade show, placed the LED fixtures on stage either side of the artists.

“They were effective as eye candy and we were all impressed with how six small Auras worked so well, even in an enormous venue like this,” Davis comments. “They were great! You wouldn’t believe how well they fit the stage – six scallop-shaped black holes in front of the choirs neatly filled with Auras.”

The MAC Aura was launched at the PLASA trade show in London, winning a PLASA Award for Innovation. It is a compact LED moving head wash light with zoom that uses two independent color systems to produce new ‘eye-candy’ effects plus functions as a single-lens wash with fully pre-mixed color.

The “Songs of Praise” rig also included Martin MAC 301 Washes, MAC TW1 tungsten wash lights, MAC 2000 Performances, MAC 2000 Washes and MAC 500s, all supplied by ELP.

“Lighting Operator Russell Grubiak did a superb job in making distinctive and contemporary looks with Designer Gerald Murphy’s excellent set,” Davis said.

An audience of nearly 7,000 attended Alexandra Palace’s Great Hall for a show that featured Katherine Jenkins, LeAnn Rimes, Beverley Knight and Andrea Bocelli together with a collection of “Songs of Praise” presenters past and present.
