LAS VEGAS — The governing body of the Parnelli Awards announces the addition of Randy Hutson to its board of advisors. Hutson is currently vice president of PRG Audio and general manager of PRG Chicago.

“Randy is a top-notch professional who I have the pleasure of working with on many projects, including auto shows,” says Parnelli executive director Patrick Stansfield. “His sage advice and wide experience in all phases of pro audio will be greatly welcomed.”

Hutson was born on a farm in the Midwest, dropped out of college and was a roadie for a struggling band who played many places “where tables and chairs were the audience.” When the band inevitably disintegrated, he got himself into a recording workshop, where he met David “Cowboy” Conyers. Conyers would later offer him a chance to work at Showco in Dallas. Once there, “I basically didn’t have a home for five years,” as he worked on the road for people like Paul Anka, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, and began a long association with James Taylor.

Later on, he also mixed for Robert Plant, Peter Gabriel and Prince, yet always returning to Taylor when he toured. “Then I kept hearing about these industrial shows, and in 1993, I started my own company.”

Hutson Sound Design provided sound design and engineering services to major corporate clients for 11 years. He then sold it to PRG, going to work for them. Currently based in Chicago, he works closely with Parnelli executive director Patrick Stansfield on shows and events in general, and auto shows in particular.

“I’ve always been intrigued by the Parnellis, and I’m honored to be asked to be a member of the board of directors,” Hutson said.

The Parnelli Awards will be in held in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, during LDI.
