Palm Expo 2012 Set for May 24-27 in Beijing

BEIJING, China — Palm Expo 2012 is set to take place from May 24-27 at the China International Exhibition Centre (CIEC) here, with more than 1,700 exhibiting companies and brands from 35 countries featured within 110,000 square meters (nearly 1.2 million square feet). The 2012 event marks the 21st time the exhibition has been staged.

Event organizers, including the China Entertainment Technology Association (CETA), IIR Exhibitions Pte Ltd and China Technology Market Management & Promotion Centre, have been driving visitor attendance with several new initiatives, including a new Hosted Buyers Program, Online Business Matching platform and a series of visitor activities.

Major exhibiting brands like American DJ, High End Systems and Robe have confirmed their presence at the show.

The key emphasis for this year’s show focuses on professional lighting equipment and technologies; digital displays, development trends of entertainment equipment, environmentally friendly stage lighting and integration of video and stage designs.

Palm Expo is expected to be attended by professional trade visitors from more than 1,000 member institutions, relevant government agencies and representatives from the entertainment industry.

Industry experts from established international associations, including the International Organisation of Stenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT), Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA), United States Association of Theatre Technology (USITT), Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (DTHG), The Professional Lighting & Sound Association of Germany (VPLT) and representatives from other top international entertainment associations, will be leading the event’s roster of summit and technical seminars.

Other conferences, seminars and activities planned include the 10th China International Entertainment Technology Summit to be held at Beijing Jiuhua Resort & Convention Centre, with an educational session entitled, “The Current Status and Development Trends in Construction of Performance Venues.” This session will cover performance venue management along with topics related to theatre construction and renovation.

The lineup of speakers includes Louis Janssen, chairman, OISTAT; David Grindle, executive director, USITT; Joshua Dachs, president, Fisher Dachs Associates; Joerg Kuemmel, CEO, Mueller-BBM; David Staples, managing director, TPC; and Yu Jian, vice-president, CETA.

The 46th CETA Members’ Information Exchange and Business Forum will be held in Beijing Jiuhua Resort & Convention Center from 24 to 26 May.

Technical Seminars at the Exhibition

During the exhibition, more than 40 technical seminars will be held to promote the exhibition and exchange concepts, latest technologies and applications for the development of the international and domestic entertainment industry. Florian von Hofen, a consultant with VPLT, will cover staging design trends and safety regulations in Europe. DTHG vice chairman, Gabriele Högg, will elaborate on development trends and the future of stage settings.
