LAS VEGAS – Women in AV (WAVE) honored AVI-SPL’s Alexis LaBroi with their first mentoring award presented during the NSCA- WAVE Networking reception June 13 at the annual InfoComm show in Las Vegas.
The WAVE Mentoring Awards highlights female mentors in the AV industry and the important contributions that these women have made to the mentees they have impacted. Each year, WAVE honors a female AV professional who have distinguished themself within the industry by guiding, supporting and promoting the career development of others.
Jennifer Willard, WAVE founder, said she’s thrilled for LaBroi to be the first recipient of the award. “Alexis’s mentoring efforts to support and encourage women in our industry are remarkable,” Willard said. “Her accomplishments demonstrate why she is a deserving winner. It is critical for us, as women, to recognize each other for the great work we do for others and we’re excited to recognize Alexis for all of her hard work as a professional in the AV industry and a remarkable mentor,” Willard said.
LaBroi has been a member of the AV industry for more than 15 years, and joined AVI-SPL’s Columbia, MD office in April 2012.
“Hiring Alexis was the easiest decision I’ve ever made,” said Greg Brice, business development manager, AVI-SPL’s Rental Division. “In addition to finding new opportunities for AVI-SPL, she has already established herself as a leader in the office and a person that everyone looks up to. Alexis clearly knows the audio-visual industry and what it takes to be successful.”
LaBroi was nominated for the award by Candace McPherson, who worked with her at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, DC.
“Alexis not only serves her clients, often receiving praise, winning new business and creating lasting business relationships, but she also serves her team first and foremost. She is a prime example of putting pride in your work and taking the extra time to tend to the little details,” said McPherson. “Alexis challenged me to test my own knowledge, inspired me to have faith in myself, and be confident in what I know.”
“I’m excited to see more and more women in the industry, and more and more mentors,” LaBroi says. “It’s great to share your experience and knowledge with other people.”
In April 2012 WAVE launched its mentoring program for the AV professional community. In the last year, more than 300 women in the AV industry have come together to share stories, discuss important challenges and opportunities women face in a male-dominated industry, and celebrate their talents and the unique perspectives women contribute to our industry’s continued success and future growth.
