RIO DE JANEIRO – Brazil’s Copacabana beach came alive on Dec. 31, ringing in the New Year with music, performance and Tait’s Pixel Tablets displaying stunning video content. Originally developed by Tait as a sustainable item for the London 2012 Olympic Ceremonies, 11,000 tablets were mounted to 242 nets and installed on either side of the stage, extending the stage 42 meters (137 ft).
Event organizers were inspired by the display of landscape video seen in London during the 2012 Olympics, and Tait were able to reuse the tablets in a new setting to stunning effect. Televised live on Brazilian national television, the free event was “attended” by 2.3 million people.
The versatile tablets have also been recently seen during Rihanna’s performance at December’s “X Factor” final, an installation which saw 5000 tablets installed and mapped within 24 hours, and removed within three.
Tait’s ability for fast deployment also sees Dutch TV series ‘Everybody Dance Now’ using the pixel tablets in their new series, currently being recorded. There are 1,100 tablets are used on set, with 200 connected to an interactive iPad voting application, signaling colors corresponding to viewers’ votes. The remaining 900 are built into custom frames and displayed in the studio.
“We can’t wait to see further exciting new ideas from event organizers using the pixel tablets,” says Carol Scott, Director of Sales and Marketing, Tait. “Having resolved the logistical problems down to manageable and affordable proportions, landscape video becomes a realistic tool with which to enhance any event communication. The opportunities are truly endless.”
