QUEBEC CITY, QC, Canada — Unisson Structures provided the enormous main Bell stage for this year’s Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ). Dubbed by Unisson as the Hi-Roof, the 224 by 109 by 86-foot structure (W x D x H) is also being used for other events at Quebec City’s Plains of Abraham this summer, including the Paul McCartney concert that was held July 23.

Close to 60 technicians worked from June 7 to 17 to erect the HI-Roof structure, preparing for the season’s kick-off event, the Fete Nationale, which was held on June 23. For the FEQ, the stage was home to a long roster of headliners July 4-14, including Rush, Guns N’ Roses, Stevie Wonder, Tiesto, The Black Keys, Bruno Mars, Def Leppard, Foreigner Wiz Khalifa, Wu-Tang Clan and Weezer, among others.

The HI-Roof reflects five years of R&D. It includes a 90-by-60-foot performance area (5,310 square feet) and can support 150 pounds per square foot. Its roof, with a 60-foot trim height, offers an evenly distributed pre-rigged capacity of 150,000 pounds, and the HI-Roof is designed to resist winds of up to 74.5 miles per hour.

Unisson Structures, based in St-Roch-de-l’Achigan, QC, just north of Montreal, was founded in 1977 by Pierre Jobin, who began as a maker of custom speaker boxes at age 21. Jobin still heads the company, and with an assist from his son, Olivier, and a team of designers, engineers and assemblers, Unisson Structures now offers a wide array of products including aluminum stage components, architectural elements and commercial products for clients around the world.
