SYDNEY — A March 1 performance by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard at the Secret Garden Music Festival here was cut short when a roof element fell to the stage. Reports cited damage from heavy rains that had hit the area prior to the performance as the probable cause. The performance area, one of the festival’s main stages, was shut down.
The band posted an announcement on their Facebook page after the incident that read,
“To anyone who was at Secret Garden over the weekend: We are very sorry we were only able to play for eight minutes,” the band said, in a posting on their Facebook page. “The stage roof collapsed and almost chopped Cav’s [drummer Michael Cavanagh’s] head off. Staff were super helpful and dealt with the situation well. Sorry Sydney!”
The nonprofit music festival raises funds for charity and is largely staffed by volunteers. It takes place on a family-owned farm committed to sustainable agricultural practices. The location is not widely publicized to non-ticket holders. Close to 6,400 concert-goers attended the event this year.
