LITITZ, PA – Scott Nacheman and Charlie Fisher will be featured speakers at the Event Safety Alliance’s first Event Safety Summit, set to take place here in early December. They will offer their perspectives on the mechanical and operational failures that were implicated in the 2011 structure collapse at the Indiana State Fair, which killed seven and injured 58.
More details from the Event Safety Alliance (www.eventsafetyalliance.org):
Stemming from the belief that examining past experiences can provide indispensable lessons for the future, the Event Safety Summit will feature two complementary case studies examining in detail the 2011 structure collapse at the Indiana State Fair. Both sessions are designed to provide real-world examples of the many issues that will be discussed throughout the three-day Summit, with an eye towards preventing similar tragedies.
CASE STUDY of INDIANA STATE FAIR STRUCTURE COLLAPSE – Technical Perspectives
As with The Station Nightclub disaster, the Indiana State Fair structure collapse of August 2011 was a watershed incident for the live event industry. From the perspective of Scott Nacheman, the engineer who was retained by the Indiana State Fair Commission to investigate the technical failures that led to the tragedy, this presentation will present a detailed insider’s view of what went wrong that night in order to identify traps for the unwary and valuable lessons for the future.
CASE STUDY of INDIANA STATE FAIR STRUCTURE COLLAPSE – Operational Perspectives
This session will explore the communication and command-related factors that delayed the response to Indiana’s severe weather incident until it was too late. Featuring the insider perspective of Charlie Fisher, lead investigator retained by the State of Indiana to examine operational decision-making, this panel will discuss the Indiana State Fair incident in the larger context of event decision-making and communications, the role of public officials such as law enforcement and fire marshals, and ways to respond to severe weather incidents.
These are just two of the many wide-ranging discussions you can expect at the ESA’s first-ever Event Safety Summit. Ready to join other thought leaders in driving cultural change in the live event industry? Secure your place in classs by registering today!
