AUSTIN, TX – They say everything is bigger in Texas, and the 75,000 people who poured into Zilker Park’s 46-acres for the Austin City Limits Music Festival were about to experience live music in a big way. Bandit Lites worked with the design team 3SRCreative to provide lighting for the massive event where more than 130 musical acts performed.

For the second time in its history, the festival took place over two weekends and included performances by Foster the People, St. Vincent, Beck, Iggy Azalea, Calvin Harris, Lorde, Skillrex, Eminem, Pearl Jam, and Outkast. Those in attendance were also able to enjoy Austin’s vibrant food scene at the festival’s food court, aptly named “Austin Eats” which boasted multiple food trucks, legendary barbeque and even a food and wine festival showcase. The festival also featured a boutique store, art market, charity booths and kid zone.
Lighting designer Seth Jackson of 3SRCreative worked to create designs that not only provided spectacular visuals, but also was flexible for the incoming artists’ rigs. With 130 artists moving on and off the stages over the course of two weekends, attention to detail and versatility proved to be the winning combination.
“(Bandit Lites’ vice-president) Mike Golden facilitated multiple rental packages on both stages for not only the main rig, but for all of the additional fixtures, floor packages, and last minute requests of the various artists,” Jackson said. “Shawn Lear and Dizzy Gosnell kept track of a mountain of draftings, rigging plots, weights and measures and a thousand other details. The outstanding crew onsite worked tirelessly through long days and nights with great attitudes and success.”
Equipment for the event included VL 3500 washes, VL 3500 spots, VL 3000 spots, Solaris Flares, Clay Paky Sharpys, Lycian M2 spots, Nexus 4×4, Mac Auras, 30 Syncrolites, Martin Atomic 3000 strobes, GLP impressions and multiple Grand MA 2 full consoles. Chris Stuba worked as programmer.
“Bandit Lites didn’t just rent the gear and provide a crew for the two main stages and much of the site lighting for ACL,” said Jackson, “they also worked in tandem with myself and C3 Presents to cover every detail and logistic for this large and complicated event.”
