Lightswitch Supporting Solar Alternatives to Kerosene Lighting in Africa

CHICAGO — Lighting design firm Lightswitch will be once again partnering with the Honnold Foundation and SolarAid to try to replace kerosene lighting currently used in sub-Saharan Africa with safer, greener alternatives in 2015, which has been proclaimed the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015) by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

The company, with locations in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Francisco and Hong Kong, is helping those organizations raise awareness and funding to promote a switch from toxic kerosene lamps to clean, sustainable solar-powered lights, which can promote literacy while curbing kerosene’s hazards.

“The Honnold Foundation is matching all donations, so please join us in contributing to this vital effort,” the company noted in a press release.
