5 Seconds of Summer Band Member Injured in Pyro Accident

LONDON — Michael Clifford, guitarist with 5 Seconds of Summer, sustained burns from a pyro effect to his hair and face while performing at London’s SSE (Wembley) Arena June 13. Clifford came into accidental contact with the flame effect toward the end of the second of three concerts slated for the venue.

The band cut its June 13 show short but the show went on June 14, without pyro, as Clifford joined the band on stage while still recovering from his injuries. Although he had joked with a tweet shortly after the accident — “Sorry I couldn’t finish the encore, but at least I look like Two Face” — with bandages covering half his face, photos taken June 14 showed relatively minor injuries and confirmed that Clifford was well on his way to a full recovery.
