DELMAR CA – For the inaugural KAABOO Festival, launched in Del Mar, California this September, Clay Paky Sharpys, A.leda B-EYE K20s and an array of grandMA2 consoles were deployed. All were sourced via A.C.T Lighting, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Clay Paky lighting fixtures and MA Lighting consoles in North America.

More details from Clay Paky (www.actlighting.com):

KAABOO was held at the Del Mar Racetrack & Fairgrounds over a three-day period.  Performances by more than 100 musical acts filled seven indoor and outdoor stages; one stage was dedicated to comedy.  Celebrity and local chefs, California wines and craft brews were on hand to satisfy the most serious foodies. Festival lighting designer Chris Lisle was tasked with delivering unique looks to each stage.  “We had a lot of fun playing with architecture,” he says.  “We created ambience and environmental looks across the site.”

The main stage, Sunset Cliffs, featured over 50 active Sharpys layered throughout the rig to give big visual punch.  The EDM (Encore) stage used 24 B-EYE K20s in the design, primarily shining toward the audience for big effects and visuals.

“The B-EYEs were used in Shapes mode,” notes Lisle.  “We took advantage of a lot of the great built-in macros.  They performed great, and we had a lot of fun playing with them!”

Across the venue a total of 15 grandMA2 full-size, lights and command wing consoles were deployed to control lighting.  “They performed amazingly well – as always,” he reports.  “On several of the stages we utilized the consoles’ great pixel-mapping capabilities.”

Lighting suppliers to the KAABOO festival included SoloTech, Visions Lighting, Christie Lites and Showtech.
