OAKLAND, CA — A big crowd of friends of the late production and tour manager Benny Collins, who died Jan. 27 at age 68, gathered for a memorial service, “A Celebration of a Life Well Lived,” a.k.a. “Benny’s Last Load-Out” on April 1, 2017 at Oakland’s historic Fox Theater.
Collins, a 2014 recipient of the Parnelli Lifetime Achievement Award, played a pivotal role in ensuring that tours for a long roster of artists materialized as planned. These top acts included Journey, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Lionel Richie and U2, among others.
The organizers of the memorial service expressed gratitude to Another Planet Entertainment for their support for the event, which was held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the 2,800-capacity Art Deco-styled venue.
