LAS VEGAS — Elton John is recuperating in the U.K. after a bout with an unspecified illness that required a temporary hospital stay following his shows in South America, according to reports. A string of seven Million Dollar Piano shows slated for Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from April 25-May 4, plus a May 6 concert in Bakersfield, CA, were canceled.

The performer, who turned 70 in March, is expected to make a complete recovery and resume performing with a show in the U.K. set for June 3. Previous bouts with a respiratory infection forced the cancelation of four shows at Caesars in May 2012.

Elton John’s Million Dollar Piano tour, feature a production design by Patrick Woodroffe and the late Mark Fisher, began its run at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace in late Sept. 2011. The show, which follows the artist’s Red Piano series of shows (2004-2009), is slated to run until May 2018.
