Each tour stop will offer five nights of entertainment hosting 250 cars at each event with a custom-designed performance space consisting of a covered stage, two 40-foot screens, a 52-foot rainbow-shooting fire hydrant and inflatable “Parking Lot Social” gorillas. Audio will be transmitted directly to custom-made wireless headphones supplied to all guests. Tickets start at $30.
As well as evening and late-night events, The Parking Lot Social will host SocialKids dedicated family events running during the day each Saturday and Sunday, and featuring the same entertainment but adapted for a family audience. Each event will also feature a dedicated food village, with social distancing protocols in place for food ordering, delivery and handling.
“The Parking Lot Social has been designed with a special emphasis on the event being immersive and interactive,” says co-creator Grahame Ferguson. “Think of it like a mini-festival that takes place right inside your very own car. We’ve used our experience in event production to design and build an amazing looking and completely versatile entertainment hub that features experiences and shows we’ve put on at major music festivals, clubs and colleges
The 2020 summer tour will roll into the following cities: Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Dallas, TX; Detroit, MI; Houston, TX; Indianapolis, IN; Philadelphia, PA; St. Louis, MO; Tampa, FL; and Washington, DC.
Safety has been at the forefront in the event creation. Tickets for this event must be purchased online; on arrival, customers display tickets on their dashboard or their phone, and tickets will be scanned remotely for contactless check-in.
Each car gets a packet with separately colored wristbands for each attendee. Each color relates to four different 20-minute windows during the event, at which time the person wearing that color can leave their vehicle, to ensure minimum foot traffic at any one time.
Lines for restrooms and food will be subject to social distancing with customers asked to maintain a safe distance from each other. Stewards will be on hand to advise on this and to make sure that protocols are respected. Dedicated hand sanitation stations will be positioned at around the event site.
