LONDON – On Oct. 12, the U.K.’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) detailed how some of the $1.95 billion in pandemic relief funding will keep a broad swath of arts organizations afloat through April 2021.
The Culture Recovery Fund includes $335 million in grants to 1,385 arts organizations and venues varying in size from 550-seat Wigmore Hall, which received $1.3 million, to 50-seat Finborough Theatre, also in London, which received $77,000.
While the challenges to the arts sector still loom large, the funding is being lauded for helping many small venues hang on as they partially re-open for performances for socially distanced audiences and livestream performances.
