VOLUX Fixtures Elevate the RESISTANCE Megastructure at Ultra Music Festival 2025

Kicking off the 2025 festival season in spectacular fashion, VOLUX Lighting delivered a stunning visual experience at Ultra Music Festival, North America’s premier electronic music event, held annually during Miami Music Week. This year marketing Ultra’s 25th anniversary, drawing massive crowds and globally renowned electronic acts to Bayfront Park.

One of the festival’s most iconic stages, the RESISTANCE Megastructure, known for its immersive industrial design and cutting-edge production, hosted a range of the world’s leading techno artists, including Adam Beyer, Carl Cox, Charlotte De Witte, Richie Hawtin, and Solomun. Led by Lighting Designer Evan Bloom, over 220 VOLUX Lighting fixtures were installed and featured VOLUX’s latest IP-rated technology innovations, including the PHYSOS, FLARIX 1XK, PHANTOM, PHANTRA, and FLARIS BLADE. This wasn’t a simple deployment – this was a testament to performance at one of the most technically demanding stages in festival production.

For the 25th Anniversary, headlining acts presented exclusive performances such as Carl Cox’s Evolution, Richie Hawtin’s DFX EFX, and Dubfire’s EVOLV. Each required complex production, changing ground packages, and rotating guest LDs to deliver breathtaking interplay synchronized to every beat. 50+ IP65-rated PHYSOS Profile Moving Heads arranged in in a two-tiered layout known as the “stars.” It’s segment-leading compact size, low weight, and lightning-fast movement made it
the ideal primary workhorse. “The PHYSOS were amazingly fast and bright,” said Bloom.

Remarkably quick movements and extensive zoom range provided the responsiveness needed to achieve complex lighting effects. From flyouts to delay sweeps, and from punchy, long-throw beams to ultra-wide, textured spreads, every effect cut effortlessly through the chaos – powered by a 1,000W LED engine and precision optics designed to maximize output. “I didn’t expect PHYSOS to move like that. For an IP-rated profile, they were fast, punchy, and super clean through the air,” said Rane Renshaw, Guest LD.

For energetic strobe and wash effects, 60 FLARIS 1XK units were added overhead for dynamic color chases and eye-popping strobe effects with their 4-tube + 3-segment pixel plate design. The integrated warm white color plate delivered an authentic blinder effect – without needing a separate fixture. Running in a reduced 33ch mode conserved universes while allowing designers to add an extra level of eye-candy to its unique layout. “These things are ridiculously bright, and that warm white is just beautiful, you can’t replicate it,” said Victor Sanchez, Guest LD.

40 PHANTOM Wash Moving Head added a vibrant contrast with saturated RGBL colors and a prismatic rotating lens effect, while 66 FLARIS BLADE pixel bars along the downstage delivered seamless pixel movement and a cold-white center strobe for extra impact. To highlight performers, PHYSOS fixtures provided overhead key lighting with CTO and High-CRI filters for accurate skin tones, while PHANTRA uplights added punch and dimension for dancers and aerialists-all in a compact footprint.

Florida weather put VOLUX fixtures to the test on Day 3 when torrential rain hit the festival grounds. Despite heavy water runoff and exposure, every IP65-rated fixture performed flawlessly-a true validation of VOLUX’s engineering and reliability in extreme conditions. “Ultra is quite special to me. Not just because it’s in our backyard-but because its shaped some of my earliest inspirations in lighting,” said Zach Delzotti, CEO of VOLUX Lighting. “Being on-site and engaging with LDs during programming was invaluable. The MEGASTRUCTURE continues to be the gold standard in live performance lighting.”
