There is no doubt that as we head into the summer Live Entertainment is back as concert tours, festivals and sporting events are all seeing large audiences embrace their return. Though theater was a bit slower to raise the curtain, it too is back. The Broadway 2021-22 season saw 34 shows open, 15 of which opened all in April. (Standing ovations for all the crews that pulled that off!) For the 75th Tony Awards nominations, there are 14 different shows with lighting and scenic (and projection) design nominations (short rant: Projection Design is its OWN discipline and deserves its OWN Tony; and no you don’t do that by dropping Sound Design AGAIN!) As well as the Tonys in June, there will be the return of the 20th Parnelli Awards. Any opportunity to recognize the amazing work of the live entertainment industry is always welcome and when we can once again celebrate together it is truly a reason to applaud.
