LONG BEACH, CA- This summer, Long Beach Opera brought Robert Xavier Rodriguez’s Frida production to Southern California for the first time. Lighting Designer Dan Weingarten and Director of Production Holly Ahlborn turned to 4Wall Los Angeles for the lighting needed to help tell the tale of famed artist Frida Kahlo. The overall goal of LD Weingarten’s lighting design was to capture the essence of Frida’s own color palette; her vibrant, rich colors influenced heavily by her surroundings in contrast to the subject matter of her work.

Chauvet Professional Maverick MK Pyxis

At the center of Chauvet Professional’s Maverick MK Pyxis is a single homogenous 60W RGBW LED with a fixed 3-degree beam angle. Surrounding this pixel is an outer ring made up of nine 15W RGBW LEDs with a 7-45-degree zoom angle. Working together, the center pixel and outer ring are capable of creating a variety of captivating beam, wash, atmospheric and set piece effects. The fixture also features 360-degree continuous pan and tilt movement. In addition to creating moving looks, the Maverick MK Pyxis can also do double and triple duty as wash and beam light. With a combined center pixel and outer ring illuminance of 27,560 lux at five meters, the fixture has the output needed for a wide variety of applications.
