‘Elegant Decay’ for ‘Sunset Boulevard’

With Glenn Close returning to the character of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, the role that won her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical 22 years ago, one wonders what the creative team could do to top the previous production. As Sunset’s new scenic designer James Noone notes, the last mansion set was enormous and very realistic. “It was a beautiful, stunningly executed, Gothic Hollywood movie palace that came down from the flies and moved forward,” he says.

Bon Jovi ‘This House Is Not For Sale’ 2017 Tour

PLSN caught up with Bon Jovi’s longtime designer Doug “Spike” Brant of Nimblist, the company he runs with Justin Collie based out of Lancaster, PA. Together the two designers and their team put on various immersive entertainment projects, live sports, broadcast specials, festivals and special events and most notably concert tours with the likes of Lady Gaga, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, just to name a few. Everything, from ‘Shooting Star’ drones flying in unison above the stadium to create the American flag to the stage surrounded by fire and Glow Motion torches, was top drawer.

Ayrton Helps Lady Gaga Bring Warmth to the Pepsi Zero Sugar Super Bowl Halftime Show

HOUSTON – On Feb. 5, Houston, Texas played host to the NFL’s Super Bowl LI, at NRG Stadium. Entertaining the crowds in the hotly anticipated Pepsi Zero Sugar Halftime Show was Lady Gaga, whose performance earned the respect of millions in an intense 12-minute spectacular that was viewed by over 115 million people worldwide. The show was another world-class collaboration from co-production designers, Bruce Rodgers of Tribe Inc., LeRoy Bennett of Seven Design Works, and lighting designer Bob Barnhart of 22 Degrees.

Complex Nightclub NYE Event Lights Up with Claypaky Sharpys

MAASTRICHT, The Netherlands – Nearly 100 Claypaky Sharpys were used for an eight-hour light show to 2,000 partygoers at an underground club hosted by Dutch techno music agency Claydrum at Complex nightclub, Maastricht for New Year’s Eve. Dutch production designer Joël Lemmerling, from Maastricht-based production company, Stöd, selected 96 of the multi-award winning Sharpy fixtures to create a fastidious design formulated by gridded white, colored and UV light beams and clever manipulation of angles.
