Anaheim Ducks Upgrade Lighting with HES Solarange Fixtures

ANAHEIM, CA. -When the Anaheim Ducks revamped their entertainment system in the Honda Center, lighting designer Kevin Sorg specified new automated lighting from High End Systems, including a dozen SolaWash 37 and four SolaSpot Pro CMY fixtures. The installation was part of a $10M upgrade including replacement of the scoreboard. Kevin says, “We wanted to add lighting fixtures underneath the scoreboard to give us a closer fixture to the ice, as well as be able to use them as eye candy and spotting specific areas in the arena.”

USA – Legendary Swedish metal band, Opeth, crossed the Atlantic once again to rock at some of the most prestigious venues in the country. In support of the band’s 12th studio album, Sorceress, Opeth jammed their way across North America for a month-long string of shows lit by 4Wall New York. Lighting Designer Magnus Boyd started planning for the Sorceress tour as early as March. “I was determined from the beginning to have a ground package with versatile fixtures that could give me the punch needed for a band like Opeth,” explained Boyd.

Powder Scare Cancels Metropolitan Opera Performances

NEW YORK — An Oct. 29 matinee performance of Guillaume Tell at the Metropolitan Opera was cut short and the production of L’Italiana in Algeri that evening was canceled as authorities investigated reports of a man sprinkling white powder into the orchestra pit. The man turned out to be Roger Kaiser, an opera buff visiting from Dallas, who was carrying out the last wishes of a deceased friend. The white powder was his friend’s ashes.

LED Saves Power for White Rock Theatre

HASTING, UK – An LED lighting installation – specified and undertaken by Penn Elcom – is saving the White Rock Theatre in Hastings approximately 75 per cent on electricity requirements, plus a further 70 per cent on maintenance costs per year compared to the previous lighting scheme. The seafront located theatre, a historically significant cultural landmark in the East Sussex region with origins dating back to 1927, is a busy receiving house owned by Hastings Borough Council with the day to day running and management undertaken by HQ Theatres & Hospitality.
