A Wild Ride

It’s been a wild ride as an editor this year. I took over for Justin Lang last year at LDI. I had no idea what to expect when I took this gig, and for about three months, I was pretty overwhelmed with the bazillion little things an editor has to do. But now it’s a well-oiled, smooth gig. Kind of like starting up a tour. The first few days are pretty tough as everyone realizes they have a lot more responsibilities (read: more work thrown at them) than they originally signed on for.

It’s More than Just Waxing Nostalgic

Drum roll, please…. Ta Dah! This year we’re celebrating the 15th annual Parnelli Awards. This is a fact I am very proud of, and I am sure Parnelli Awards co-founder, Patrick Stansfield, is looking down at us from his production office in the sky, smiling as well. It seems just yesterday the Parnelli Awards were a gleam in our collective eyes. But now, 15 years later and with 37 of the top production people in our field honored, we have hit a milestone year.

Reimagining History with ‘Hamilton’

Actor/playwright/composer Lin-Manuel Miranda empathizes with underdogs. As Usnavi in the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical In The Heights, he portrayed a young Latino immigrant in New York City’s Washington Heights struggling with cultural assimilation into America. In his hot new musical, Hamilton, he portrays Alexander Hamilton, the impoverished immigrant from St. Croix who became a highly prolific writer (penning a majority of The Federalist Papers) and the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, often clashing with allies and rivals alike.

AC/DC Hits the Stadiums

Last month, AC/DC played a show in Chicago that had local residents listening to the music from their apartments…, a mile away. Amidst a shower of pyrotechnics, the band hit the stage running for a non stop two hour show starting off with their new song (and name of the tour) “Rock or Bust.” Taking a second to cool off before launching into a parade of hits, singer Brian Johnson announced, “Tonight, together, we’re gonna make some rock ‘n’ roll….., and the party starts now.” He wasn’t kidding, as a non-stop two-hour energetic rock ‘n’ roll show followed.
