Top-Level comedians have been increasingly getting out of those 3,000-5,000 seat theaters and trying their jokes out in arenas and stadiums. Two of the biggest – Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan – thought they would pair up in a co-headliner mini-tour of just four cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and St. Louis. For the last show in St. Louis, they experimented with leaving the full theater curtain package set on the truck and seeing if they could pull it off selling seats on the extreme sides and behind them to increase ticket sales further. Color has always been “a huge part of our design process,” Dayne deHaven says of the work that he and his collaborator at the District 5 design studio, Tyler Shapard, have been doing for The Band Camino. Fans of the red-hot rock-pop trio would readily agree; the band’s music is so evocative, that each song calls out for its own distinct color signature. Ironically, though, on the band’s recently concluded 25-date tour, the show begins in virtual darkness, as eerie electronic sounds resonate over a blacked-out stage.
