DUBAI – At the end of August an exciting event took place at Al Habtoor City in the heart of Dubai. La Perle, the spectacular new acrobatic water show from Franco Dragone, opened its doors for the first time in a purpose-built, 1300-seat, theatre designed by renowned set designer, Jean Rabasse, and executed by Khatib and Alami Architects and theatre consultants Auerbach Pollock Friedlander. Robert Juliat is proud to be a part of it, with four of its Cyrano 2500W HMI chosen as La Perle’s followspots.

Analog Way AV Processors Manage LED Screens at the 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest

BUDAPEST – When the 17th FINA World Championships and World Masters Championships, the biennial aquatics and water sports competitions, were staged in Budapest, Hungary, an array of Analog Way AV processors made a splash managing multiple LED screens in different locations through a single system. Giant Unilumin LED screens were mounted in five sports venues and were integral to every competition.  AV Spring Ltd. supported the operations team with engineering plans for the AV systems and provided technical training for key personnel.

Avolites gives the magic Tiger Touch to Cinderella this Christmas

UK – Oh no they didn’t! Oh yes they did! The lighting team at The Grand Theatre Blackpool is using an Avolites Tiger Touch II console to control the magical light show for the historic theatre house’s star-studded Christmas pantomime performance of fairy-tale classic, Cinderella. The show marks the 21st anniversary of production company, UK Productions, one of the country’s leading musical theatre and pantomime production groups. On board for this year’s celebratory performance was lighting designer Andy Webb, who has worked with UK Productions for the past three years on their festive Blackpool shows.

NETHERLANDS – Dutch astronaut André Kuipers presented his SpaceXperience Live show as the central element of a larger conference / expo style event at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, an immersive intergalactic journey staged in-the-round, with Kuipers relating his many stories and real life experiences working in space on various ESA programs. Lighting designer Henk-Jan van Beek from Dutch creative visual practice Light-H-Art was asked to light the show by production company LiveLane. He’s worked on many shows in the Ziggo Dome throughout his career, but this was the first time a concept like this was central to the 90 minute presentation!

In Memoriam: Jason Browning, 46

COLUMBUS, OH – Jason Browning, a longtime tour manager for bands including Matchbox Twenty, Stone Temple Pilots and others, died on Dec. 26, 2017. He was 46. A native of Columbus, OH, Browning attended Thomas Worthington High School (Worthington, OH) and Columbus State Community College before getting his start in the entertainment industry working security for artists including Hanson, Marilyn Manson and Rob Thomas.

Whirlwind PLR-MC21 and PLR-MC22

Whirlwind’s PLR-MC21 and PLR-MC22 (pictured here) control three-phase chain motors. Each will operate one or two motors in a 2RU package, with all controls and connections accessible on the front panel. The PLR-MC21 has 10-amp circuit breaker protection and is designed for use with one-ton and smaller motors. The PLR-MC22 has 20-amp circuit breaker protection and is designed for use with two-ton motors. Both have individual up and down selectors for each motor and a master GO button. A phase reverse circuit is also provided to correct motor direction. Three phase input connectors can be selected to coordinate with existing power distros.
