LAS VEGAS — The irony is that when NASCAR comes to town, Las Vegas traffic slows to a crawl. But Bruno Mars’ March 11 and 12 concerts at the new 5,000-plus-capacity Park Theater at MGM’s Monte Carlo also drew capacity crowds. Mars kicked off his two-year agreement to perform at MGM properties with NYE shows on Dec. 30 and 31, where LD/programmer Cory FitzGerald deployed 87 SharBars provided by VER.

AUSTRALIA: One of Tasmania’s leading lighting designers, Gareth Kays, used an ultra-compact Quartz console from British manufacturer Avolites to program the magical lighting and special effects on the Australian island state’s production of blockbuster Broadway musical Wicked. The show ran at Hobart’s Theatre Royal from 27 January to 11 February. Featuring spectacular staging and a 17-piece orchestra, the musical was put on by local production company The Show Company.
