Spotrack Makes London Debut

LONDON – Spotrack, a new system that turns moving lights into followspots under the control of a human operator, is now appearing nightly as a key element of the lighting design for the acclaimed Shakespeare Trilogy, produced by  Donmar Warehouse at a new temporary theatre in London’s King’s Cross. Four Spotrack systems are in use on the show, allowing four performers to be individually followed by four operators.

Steinigke Showtechnic Donates Use of Show Technology for Musical Fundraiser Staged in Germany

HEIDENHEIM an der BRENZ, Germany — At the Benefit Musical Gala organized by musical sehnsucht e.V. on behalf of children with tumors or leukemia being treated in Ulm, Germany, Steinigke Showtechnic donated the use of its stage technology at no charge, allowing for 6,000 additional Euros to be given to support the kids in need. The gala event was held in Heidenheim in June, and the featured artists also performed at no charge.

ASIA – Dutch lighting designer Jan Kortbeek has been using Avolites Media’s Ai Infinity RX server to control complex new media content for an updated version of the live musical theatre show of DreamWorks Animation’s cartoon blockbuster Madagascar. The stage production has appeared in theaters around the world, most recently in China and the Middle East.

Airport in Turkmenistan Launched with Visual Support from FIX8Group

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan – Visual production company FIX8Group recenlty managed and delivered a complex projection and content management project for an event staged by Turkish construction group Polimeks for the Government of Turkmenistan to launch the country’s new international airport. FIX8Group sent in one of its top projection mapping teams for the 10-day project, which culminated in a mixed media spectacular that centered around Turkmenistan culture and history. The event took place Sept. 17 at Ashgabat Stadium and was attended by more than 20,000.

Woodlite Adds to Growing Inventory of Robe Fixtures with 100+ BMFLs

KARLSTAD, Sweden – Woodlite, a lighitng rental company near the university town of Karlstad, Sweden, which also maintains a facility in Stockholm, recently added more than 100 Robe BMFL moving lights to their inventory, bringing their current BMFL total to close to 330 fixtures. They also own nearly 350 Robe Pointes. The company was founded by Magnus Jansson in 1995 (pictured here).

2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival Stage Brightened with Solaris Flares

LAS VEGAS — When the house lights dimmed at the iHeartRadio Festival 2016, the lighting system, designed by Tom Kenny, included one of the largest rigs of Solaris Flares ever: 222 of the popular 1 kilowatt LED fixtures, with an amazing maximum potential output of over 7 million lumens. Taking place in the brand new T-Mobile Arena on 23-24 September, the sold out show made music history once again. With performances by artists such as U2, Sting, Usher, Sia, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Tears For Fears, Britney Spears, and many more, it was an event that made way for some of the most exciting live music of the year, in a visual setting enhanced by stunning lighting and effects.
