ROME – Vasco Rossi followed up his extensive tour in 2015 with another series of extravagant concerts this year, and LD Giovanni Pinna has a new tool in his arsenal – Clay Paky’s Spheriscans. The artist performed a series of shows in late June that kicked off with an event at the the Lignano Sabbiadoro stadium on June 18 and drew big crowds, especially with his concert at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

BRISTOL, TN — The “Colossus” video display, suspended by cables attached to four giant, purpose-built towers outside the stadium at Bristol Motor Speedway, is being called the world’s largest outdoor center-hung video display. Each of the four panels on the display measure 30 by 63 feet (HxW), and each is comprised of 240 digiLED Toura6 6mm LED panels (24 x 10, WxH). Along with digLED, GoVision and Panasonic were involved in this project. The display will also feature prominently in the Battle of Bristol, which is expected to set a record as the biggest college football game ever when the University of Tennessee/Knoxville faces off against Virginia Tech on Sept. 10. Some 150,000 spectators are expected to attend.

PHILADELPHIA – For the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Starlite Productions of Moorestown, NJ and The Lighting Practice of Philadelphia, PA collaborated on a number of projects to enhance the look of Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station and City Hall. The lighting design for each landmark dictated a combination of powerful LED-wash lights as well as long-throw profile units for pattern projection of the various patriotic themed elements.

Swimming trials are becoming a popular spectator event with cities competing fiercely to win the rights to host them. Omaha, Nebraska and the Century Link Center presented this seasons Olympic swimming trials on June 26 to July 3rd for the 3rd time since 2008. HUBER HEIGHTS, OH — For the current 98 Degrees tour, designer Butch Allen is using a rig that includes 24 Chauvet Professional Maverick MK2 Washes supplied by RK Diversified Entertainment. Dubbed the “My2K” tour, the trek evokes nostalgia for the music of the 1990s and early 2000s with its reference to the Y2K computer scare. 98 Degrees is joined by O-Town, Dream, and singer Ryan Cabrera on the journey, which launched near Wichita, KS on July 8 and wraps up in San Francisco in late August.

This year the British manufacturer’s consoles and media servers once again managed a wide swath of the impressive visuals supporting the music on the various stages, including the main stages and secondary performance spaces as well. ADELAIDE, Australia – The Adelaide Convention Centre has added to its already ample fleet of High End Systems consoles with the purchase of two Full Boar 4’s and six Road Hog 4’s, bringing their inventory to four Full Boar 4’s and ten Road Hog 4’s in total. The purchase is part of the plan for the anticipated mid-2017 opening of their new Plenary Building, a multi-purpose venue built on the site of the original 1987 Convention Centre, with a capacity of up to 3,500 seats.
