It was another bountiful year in Las Vegas as the LDI (Live Design International) show hit the Convention Center for the fourth consecutive year. Over 10,000 people were on the floor to check out more than 350 different exhibitor booths over the three-day span the floor was open. From Lighting to Lasers, Staging to Scenery, it was all here on display last Oct 23-25. One didn’t have to search far for all the cool little gizmos we all need to keep the shows running. New inventions as well as improved versions of old standards peaked my technical interest as much as the great new lighting products.

SOUTH BEND, IN — The city of South Bend, Indiana is celebrating 150 years. LD Rob Shakespeare developed an interactive lighting display called South Bend River Lights using 80 Martin Exterior 400 and Tripix Wash LED fixtures to illuminate the St. Joseph River.

SALT LAKE CITY – Keven Myhre, a Salt Lake City theatrical designer and director, has been chosen to receive the 2016 Thomas DeGaetani Award from USITT. Myhre will be honored at USITT 2016 in Salt Lake City next March. USITT annually honors a key contributor to the performing arts in the region of its national Conference & Stage Expo. The 2016 Conference will be held in Salt Lake March 16-19.

AUSTRIA – This year was the sixth Lake Festival, the biggest EDM event in Austria. More than one hundred artists performed on five different stages, including Avicii, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, Alesso and Tiësto. Thirty six Clay Paky Sharpys, 34 Clay Paky Mythos units, 1 grandMA2 full-size e 1 grandMA2 light were used (along with other equipment) at the festival, which took place at Unterpremstätten on Schwarzl Lake.

A new iteration of Forbidden’s professional video editing software, Forscene, will be released on Nov. 24 and will be immediately available to all clients of the post-production platform. The functionality introduced in this release enables new Avid workflows and increases efficiencies on multitrack productions. Longtime Forscene client Princess Productions, who was integrally involved in the development and testing process, requested many of the new features.
