2014 LDI Post-Show Report
I have attended perhaps five LDI conventions over the years. Usually I see a lot of rehashed products mixed in with a few new ideas. 2014 seemed to bring a big reversal in this trend; I viewed so many new products that I felt like a kid in Disneyland. With more than 300 exhibitors and 8,000 people in attendance, it was certainly a packed house. There was never a dull moment as I ventured from booth to booth.

ORLANDO, FL – Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Orlando’s $386 million Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts – a project nearly three decades in the making, according to key design collaborator Theatre Projects. The theatrical design firm worked with Barton Myers (design architect), HKS Architects (executive architect) and Baker Barrios (associate architect) on the venue, which features the 2,700-seat Walt Disney Theater and 299-seat Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater housed within a 330,000 square foot building.

Solotech Acquires Midnite Hour; Names Jean-Louis Blanchard and Ron Morissette to New Posts
MONTREAL — Solotech acquired Toronto-based Midnite Hour Productions. Company founders Marty Anderson, Louis Racine and all other employees are now part of the Solotech team. Separately, the company named Jean-Louis Blanchard vice president of the company’s integration and sales division and promoted Ron Morissette to general manager of the sales and integration division of Solotech’s Toronto office.

Avolites Gear Controls Nightclub Vibe for Katy B’s U.K. Tour
LONDON – Lighting designer Tom Campbell used Avolites’ Sapphire Touch to program and control his nightclub-vibe lighting design for Katy B’s recent U.K. tour. Campbell used the console to control a floor package including Philips Showline NITRO 510Cs, Clay Paky Stormy CCs, Clay Paky B-EYE K10 and K20s and a number of 14W OPSL Lasers.

CTI featured an expanded line of their QolorFLEX brand LED tapes at LDI 2014, including the addition of 23 new tapes with outdoor versions, 24V versions, and new colors and color temperatures. CTI’s QolorFLEX LED tape has been used on high profile productions around the world in 2014 including motion pictures like The Amazing Spiderman 2, and TV shows like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Night Show Starring Seth Myers, Saturday Night Live, Gotham, and many other shows and studios.
