LAS VEGAS — InfoComm’s 2014 exhibit halls open June 18-20, overlapping with the Electric Daisy Carnival (June 20-22). Needless to say, Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport and most Las Vegas hotels will be jam-packed this week. All the more reason to opt against accepting a $400 voucher for an overbooked flight — which led to LD Richard Dunn getting bumped from a subsequent flight back to his home in the Atlanta area.

LOS ANGELES – The Clay Paky Sharpy was lighting designer Guy Pavelo’s first choice for his hi-tech rig on hip-hop star Drake’s latest world tour. His design featured a diamond-shaped rig peppered with Clay Paky Sharpys. For this, Pavelo designed a complicated layered system of truss that exploded out from a central diamond. A considerable number of Sharpys are rigged across the master and diamond trusses with more rigged on a central ‘donut ring’ to deliver some perspective bending lighting looks.

Martin Lighting and Controllers Used for Jesus Culture’s Live Album and DVD Recording

SACRAMENTO, CA  — For Jesus Culture’s Unstoppable Love, a live album and DVD, LD Robby Kurtz deployed 32 of Martin’s MAC Viper Profile moving head luminaires and 26 Martin Atomic 3000 Strobe fixtures to create a complicated design that ensured each song had its own look. Kurtz also used Martin’s M6 lighting console to control the entire design and used the recently introduced MSD 6 for pre-programming. “The Show Designer software is a great tool for programming offline,” said Kurtz. “I spent a couple of days building the foundation of the show at home, which saved a ton of time on-site.”

Vista Systems URS Supports Fiat-Chrysler Investor Day Meeting

DETROIT – As part of the renovation of its amphitheater, Fiat-Chrysler used a Vista Systems URS-1608 Universal Routing Switcher to support video feeds. Sources were a variety of graphics computers, two laptops running Playback Pro, and a switched HDSDI program feed. Chuck Laszyca, Chief Technical Officer at TVS Communications Solutions explains that, “since all the feeds were to discrete displays it was the perfect application for the URS.  Four outputs with transitions fed the Crestron DM system that provided four unique signals going out to all these rooms.  The remaining four outputs were used as a combination of “Source” and “Confidence” monitoring.”
