Martin Exterior 400 Projectors Create Fireworks Simulation at Russia’s Belgorod Airport

BELGOROD, Russia — To bring to life its complex fireworks design element, design firm Heliocity Heliocity installed 16 of Harman’s Martin Professional Exterior 400 Image Projectors at the newly built Belgorod Airport. “After analyzing several fixtures, we decided on Martin Professional’s Exterior 400 IP due to its durability and convenient programming capabilities,” commented Anton Karpun, Project Designer, STK Heliocity. “To create the fireworks scene we ordered a special set of gobos for firework imitation. The gobos paired with the Exterior 400’s extremely robust light allowed us to successfully create a beautiful scenography of dynamic color that can be easily activated with a single button.”

Robe Pointes Shine At MIA Awards

BRUSSELS – Robe lights played a vital part of the lighting for The 2013 Music Industry Awards. The rig included 60 Robe ROBIN Pointe and 36 ROBIN LEDWash 800 moving lights for the all-action show that included nine live performances and presentation of the awards. “They gave me so many possibilities in terms of look, colour, etc.” says LD Luc Peumans.

LONDON —For the seven-week X-Factor Live UK arena tour, which featured live performances by the top eight finalists from the 2013 series, the visuals included two video walls and 59 Clay Paky Sharpys. With all that luminous firepower, the production needed an even brighter followspot. LD Jonathan Rouse chose five Robert Juliat Lancelots, a 4000W HTI discharge unit, and a Robert Juliat Manon as a truss spot.

China’s “Light of Wuxi” Relies on Christie Gear for Projection Mapped Visuals

BEIJING  Christie, and its Chinese partner, Wincomn Technology, helped Wuxi Studio present a 5D show titled Light of Wuxi, the first permanent projection mapping display in China using Christie technology. The light show is presented every Saturday on two buildings and a water screen; the total projected area exceeds 17,000 square feet. The show also uses laser lighting, fire, water jets and musical effects.

2014 Olivier Award Winners Announced

LONDON — The 2014 Olivier Awards, marking the best of theatre to open in London’s West End over the last 12 months, were presented April 13, at the Royal Opera House. The Best Lighting Design award, supported by entertainment lighting supplier White Light, was awarded jointly to four designers across two shows: to Paul Pyant and Jon Driscoll (pictured here), who were responsible for lighting and projection design on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and to Tim Lutkin and Finn Ross, lighting and projection designers for Chimerica, at the Almeida and then the Harold Pinter Theatre.

BIRMINGHAM, ALFor the fourth year in a row, Upstage Video partnered with Tallahassee, FL-based Production Support Group to provide LED screens and scenic elements for the Bassmaster Classic Bass Fishing Tournament. This year’s event took place at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The crews assembled more than 270 LED tiles to build five traditional screens, six slanted towers and a “pyramid” that served as the center backdrop to the official Bassmaster Weigh-in.

Gearhouse ICS Supports 15th Cape Town International Jazz Festival

CAPE TOWN – Gearhouse ICS has been busy with the preparation, installation and operation of the Jazz TV element of the 15th Cape Town International Jazz Festival. The video is streamed to screens in the hospitality suites in the Corporate Village, Food Court, Marimba Restaurant, Saxophone Lounge and the stages themselves during breaks. ICS deployed a technical team of 20 to manage the content mix and network operation of Jazz TV, using three ICS media servers supported by high definition media streaming encoders and to provide IT infrastructure backup.
