Bandit Lites Sees the (Green) Light

NOTTINGHAM, U.K. – Sound Power, which has been providing U.K. bars with moving spot and wash lights for two decades, has been outfitting popular drinking establishments with gear from PR Lighting since the 1990s, according to director David Ridout.

LONDON – Summit Steel supplied rigging services plus all trussing & motors required for the 2010 National TV Awards, which moved to London's O2 Arena for the first time. It was hosted by Dermot O'Leary and broadcast live on the UK's ITV1 channel.

HEFEI, China – The recently-completed Hefei Grand Theatre has been equipped with Robert Juliat lighting gear, including a number of 2000W Profiles, PCs, Fresnels and followspots. Hefei, a cultural center in China's Anhui Province, is home to a style of Chinese opera that evolved from artistic forms including folk songs and folk dances.

HELSINKI, Finland – Over 100 Robe CitySource 96 LED wash fixtures were used to illuminate Helsinki's 2009 Light Season, which lit up the Finnish capitol's Parliament House and the Council of State and University buildings. Mikki Kunttu designed the lighting for both sites, expanding on his design last year for Senate Square.

CAMBRIDGE, U.K. – Large-scale projections designed by Ross Ashton helped bring the year-long celebration for Cambridge University's 800th year to a close. Called Transforming Tomorrow, the light shows were projected onto Cambridge's Senate House and adjacent Old School, and also part of Kings College Chapel and the nearby Gibbs Building.

BRUSSELS – Besix, a Belgian conglomerate, marked 100 years in business with a show designed by Luc Petit featuring some 70 dancers and acrobats. Tof Leuba, the show's programmer, used Compulite gear to control the Procon Belgium-supplied rig, which included an assortment of Clay Paky and Vari-Lite light fixture along with Robert Juliat followspots.

DUBAI, U.A.E. – Soaring 2,717 feet in height (828 meters) – more than twice as high as the 1,250-foot-high Empire State Building – the Burj Kahlifa opened with lighting and projection complementing the Jan. 4 fireworks and water effects display for the opening of the $1.5 billion structure.
