Kristi Ross-Clausen, director of the new Stage and Entertainment Technology (SET) certificate program at Madison College in Madison, WI, notes a surprising abundance of entertainment industry jobs in this section of the nation’s heartland. But there’s a problem: “When live events started happening again after the Covid shutdown, over 30% of the workforce didn’t return.” The new SET certificate program is a direct response to all the employers in the area who had been contacting Madison College looking for workers.
BC Video Services supported the New Year’s Eve party at Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas by using PIXERA media server technology. Julie Palmisano and Keith Floyd have been the creative masterminds of the technical team and have led the charge for many years on the complex production. This year, BC Video Services had the opportunity to support them in designing and executing the highly anticipated 2023 party. Brian Crow joined the team as the PIXERA programmer and handled engineering design.
At the USITT 23 Conference in St. Louis, USITT honored Elynmarie Kazle with The Joel E. Rubin Founder’s Award, which is presented to a USITT member in recognition of outstanding and continued service to the Institute. This award was named in honor of Dr. Joel E. Rubin, co-founder and the second president of the Institute. The results are in, and this year’s big game was the third most watched television program ever. More than 118 million viewers and 7 million streamers watched as The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles went head-to-head in the big game, and Rihanna took the stage during Halftime for her first performance since 2018. PRG brought technical labor, lighting, rigging, networking, and LEDs to 2023’s pregame coverage and player introductions, and once again provided lighting and networking for the Apple Music Halftime Show.

The 2022 Symphonica in Rosso concert staged at Amsterdam Ziggo Dome was headlined by legendary Netherlands girlband Dolly Dots. The lighting and set for the Dolly Dots tour was designed by Associate Lighting Designer Thomas de Vries from renowned creative studio Live Legends, who specified 124 x Robe Spiiders, 45 x LEDBeam 150s, and 31 x BMFL Blades for this Symphonica in Rosso show that closed out 2022.
One of rock ‘n’ roll’s living legends, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, kicked off their 2023 World Tour February 1 in Tampa, FL, with lighting design by longtime collaborator and Emmy®-winning designer Jeff Ravitz. Ravitz, who has been with Springsteen since the Born in the USA tour in 1984/85, chose a selection of Elation Professional lights for the current tour, including luminaires from the company’s market leading IP65 Proteus series. Canberra-based Elite Event Technology (EET) supplied 96 x Astera AX1 PixelTubes for an eye-catching lighting design to illuminate a special Ministry of Sound Orchestral concert staged at Stage 88, a permanent venue ensconced in the leafy green environs of Commonwealth Park, Canberra, ACT. EET worked with the lighting designer for the event, Jayden Sutherland from design studio The Bakery Design Co.
Designer Westley Palmer created unique looks for two distinctly different co-headliners, sharing the stage on a two-continent tour with show dates in late 2022 and early 2023. He relied on a range of CHAUVET Professional products supplied by AVL of Jacksonville, FL.
