Kings of Leon Production designer Paul Normandale unveiled a new design for the Kings of Leon’s “Walls” 2017 tour, with Hunter Firth as the operator. U.K. audiences got their first peek at the show in February, with the U.S. arena leg starting March 11 in Broomfield, CO. Normandale graciously shared his design in a rendering of the Kings of Leon’s U.S. arena tour, as press is not yet being approved.

Cirque du Soleil Resident Shows Division Receives USITT Award

ST. LOUIS, MO — The Resident Shows Division of Cirque du Soleil received the Institute’s highest honor, the USITT Award, at USITT 2017. The award recognizes a lifetime contribution to the performing arts and entertainment communities. It was presented at the 2017 Annual Conference & Stage Expo on March 8 in St. Louis, MO. BRISTOL, U.K. — Hundreds of aspiring young engineers and roboticists took part in a science and technology challenge at the University of the West of England in Bristol. The finals of the First Lego League Challenge: Animal Allies were held in the university’s Exhibition and Conference Centre on Feb. 26. Evans Audio Visual Staging teamed up with Utopium to supply sound and lighting to the event, which was part of a global Lego-based robotics contest, and featured tens of thousands of young people.

Lighting Setup for Major Gospel Event in Nigeria Includes Avolites Consoles

LAGOS, Nigeria — For the 11th year, thousands gathered in the Nigerian capital for a gospel and praise event. The most recent of these, “The Experience 11: Revealing Jesus,” drew up to 500,000 to Tafawa Balewa Square for gospel music performances that stretched late into the night. Producers House on the Rock once again turned to Stephen Davies of UK-based Subfrantic Production Services for an assist with the lighting setup, which included Sapphire Touch and Tiger Touch II consoles from Avolites.

Bandit Donates Lighting for Knoxville Museum of Art Fundraiser

KNOXVILLE, TN — L’Amour du Vin, a charity wine auction fundraiser for the Knoxville Museum of Art, elicited donations with a combination of food, wine and attractive lighting for the special event tent set up outside the museum. For the latter, Bandit once again stepped up by donating lighting gear including a Vari-Lite VL2500s and a combination of Color Dash Blocks and MinE 10WW Lekos from Chauvet.
