COPENHAGEN, Denmark — The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, staged at B&W Halls here, included semi-finals on May 6 and May 8 and finals on May 10. The international singing talent competition was noted for its strong, masculine look this year — without forgoing the gold, glitter and glamour for which it’s known — and a cube-shaped central stage. Mediatec Solutions relied upon a visual system that included d3 Technologies’ 4U v2.5 media server at its core. The contest was seen by an estimated 180 million viewers in 45 countries.

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka —MOS Sound & Light recently provided full production services for a major concert by Greek composer/keyboardist Yanni. The lighting plot from LD Bud Horowitz called for a different brand of lighting fixture, but since those fixtures were not available for the show, MOS provided both the Spot and Wash versions of PR Lighting’s XL 1200 fixture. They proved to be an acceptable substitute.

California Theater Goes All-LED with ETC

SUNNYVALE, CA — Back in 2012, Sunnyvale Theatre here was faced with the need for a comprehensive upgrade to their lighting rig, and with a three-forked road to the future. They could continue with conventional lighting fixtures, phase in some LED fixtures, or take a more radical approach – to go all-LED and forego conventional lighting completely. Oslo Theater Upgrade Includes LED Lighting Fixtures from ETC

OSLO, Norway — As part of a comprehensive upgraded, ETC dealer Elektrik provided Oslo’s Det Norske Teatret with ETC Source Four LED Lustr+ Zoom Profile fixtures for the venue’s 738-seat main stage, replacing 30 luminaires that had been used for back- and side-lighting. Resident LD Torkel Skjærven said the fixtures’ output, color mix, size and quiet operation all met the venue’s needs.
